Once I Dreamed

to never see the ribbons of dreams streaming in the winds
a cold truth of this trip around the wheel
this journey as the sentinel of lies
digitally monitoring the dreams i long to remember
tracking the passion and the terror
scanning the secrets kept from the waking hours
searching for the sacred vision
the human i once was screams out
this nightmare of sleeplessness
pushing what is left of my mind to the brink

once i was man
once i dreamed of cool water

in this cybernetic satellite
i hover between the shadows
i glide between the nocturnal spaces
repaying my debt
making amends for a lifetime of lies
invading the dreams of the living
and the fleeting gasps of the dying
monitoring crimes of the psyche
reporting to the holy cyber one

once i was a man
once i dreamed of love

i am a prince on the throne of darkness
honoring my deal with the master of lies
i begged to know the answers in the darkness
now i know the answers and i beg for my release

once i was a man
once i dreamed of being machine
